Biography

David Lebrecht.

David Lebrecht is an employee relations consultant managing his own business since 2008. He provides advice on a wide range of employee and labour relations issues including pensions. His clients have included the BBC, a major oil business and an international business seeking employee relations advice while considering a strategic investment

David has worked in the field of employee relations for over 30 years both with management and trade unions. He began his career with Independent Television in 1977, moving to the pilot trade union, the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) in 1979. This began a career long involvement in civil aviation, an area with a history of complex and challenging labour relations issues. After various roles in BALPA, David was eventually appointed as Assistant General Secretary, a position he held until he left to join British Airways in 1993.

In fifteen years with British Airways, David negotiated with six bargaining groups and four trade unions; saw through major changes to pension arrangements and pursued a strategy aimed at modernising employee relations in a financially challenging environment. He was appointed as Head of Employee Relations in 1999, having led the labour relations function since 1996. In March 2007 he took on the role of interim HR Director and was a member of British Airways Executive Team.

In July 2008 David was appointed as a member of the Prison Services Pay Review Body and in 2009 to the Union Modernisation Fund Supervisory Board.

He is working with Manchester University Business School to support their MSc and CIPD courses by providing specific labour relations support. He is also a visiting fellow at Kingston University Business School.
